Jazz and Wurzells
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

September 5, 2011: Steve Tucker's All Star Jazz Band starred at the Community Centre on Saturday evening, as the Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) organised its annual bash to raise funds for this great cause. From what we saw from our 30 minutes there everyone was having a great time, including several professional dancers who were giving it their all on the floor to the band's excellent 1920's - 1940's music (top picture). Meanwhile, over the road in Island Park, the Carnival Committee's annual fund raising party was taking place to an agricultural theme which was beautifully underlined by the Cornish Wurzells performing a typically earthy yet professional set (bottom picture). Prior to their performance Hannah was 'sashed' as the 2011 Carnival Queen by grandad President Sid Newcombe. More pictures soon. (T'was a pity about the conflict of dates but we know that both sides had good reasons for choosing the 3rd and we don't think it made a lot of difference either way to be honest.)
