Awards Night in Hatherleigh
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

April 19, 2010: Hatherleigh's first ever Community Awards evening took place on Friday 16th April in the Community Centre. The scheme was devised by Mayor Malcolm Jacobs and his Town Council colleagues. Seven awards were presented; including two to the Council's nominations for this year's Mayor of West Devon award for service to the community - Andrew Collier and Douglas Stevens. Andrew has already been confirmed as winner of West Devon's Junior award. Eric Rowe (pictured) received a Lifetime Achievement award. Picture report here. Malcolm said: "In a nutshell, Hatherleigh is a small place with a lot going on. Indeed there is more going on and to a higher standard than is found in many a larger town. For these things to happen demands a great deal of effort by dedicated people and Hatherleigh is fortunate enough to have a number of people who represent the town in a variety of ways. The Town Council thought that it was about time that we started publicly saying 'thank you' to these people on behalf of the town." He added: "We're hoping that this will become an annual event, and next year we will be asking you to make the nominations!"
