Best Start in Devon!
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

BEST START IN DEVON! DOWNLOAD SPOKE 2 HERE. August 27, 2009: Hatherleigh is pushing the boat out for the start of Stage 7 of the Tour of Britain race in Hatherleigh on September 18th at 10.15. Bradley Wiggins is riding for the team-garmin-slipstream (although we wish they'd keep their web site up to date!) and you'll also see plenty of others riders from the best teams in the world. You can even mingle with them, their bikes and team technicians from 08.30. To keep you entertained a mini-Carnival procession is set for 09.30, featuring the biggest bike in the world, plus there's an appearance by the famous Hatherleigh Tar Barrels. Trials bike star Andrei Burton will jump the Barrels and later give a special display in the Square ensuring that everyone should have a great time. There's even a Vintage Bike display in the Community Centre! Full details are in Spoke 2, just released in Hatherleigh's Parish Pump magazine. It has a complete map of events, including timetables and details of the easy car parking designed to make things as simple as possible for your visit to the 'best start in Devon'. Road closures will be in force, but otherwise just come and enjoy yourselves with our Devon bike-dom extraordinaire. There's a town full of entertainment the night before too, with the Tally Ho! and the Bridge Inn both putting on live Music. The Bridge is even threatening a Fancy Dress competition!
