DEMOLITION of Torwood House
By Neil Price, Co-Editor

August 26, 2009: Proposed DEMOLITION of Torwood House, Hatherleigh. Planning ID:13225/2009/OKE The new owners of Torwood House, Mr and Mrs A Perry, have put in a Planning Application with West Devon Borough Council to DEMOLISH this house and build a workshop (!) on the site, as well as a new house on the property. If you're not familiar with Torwood, it is on the A386, on your right heading towards Okehampton, just past Presslands House. Torwood House (formerly known as Little Presslands) was built in 1888 at the same time as Presslands House. It was originally built as two cottages, by the local landowner to house his Estate Manager and another farm worker, and many years later converted to one dwelling. Torwood features the original sash windows, most original doors, original fireplaces, internal bi-fold window shutters, parquetry floors as well as the stone built structure itself. Torwood House is a part of the social and agricultural history of this area, please do not allow this property to be erased from our landscape, in order for someone to build a workshop on the footprint !! If you feel that you would like to oppose this Planning Application please email West Devon Borough Council Anyone who wishes to make representations about this application is invited to submit them online using the link on our website, by e-mail to dc@westdevon.gov.uk or in writing clearly marked for the attention of Mr J Dymond West Devon Borough Council, Kilworthy Park, Tavistock, Devon, PL19 0BZ by 17th September 2009 Here is the link to go to the Planning Application http://www.westdevon.gov.uk/planningapp/WeeklyList.aspx With thanks, Sarah Brennan 5 South Street 810 637
