Tour of Britain update
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

July 8, 2009: With the Tour de France now well underway it's nice to know that there's only 2 months to go until Hatherleigh - the smallest town in Devon - hosts the start of Stage 7 of the Tour of Britain cycle race. Many of the riders in the current Tour de France will be racing from Hatherleigh so expect to see some stars here. Perhaps several thousand spectators will turn up to watch, and they'll all need breakfasts, refreshments and entertaining from around 8am until the riders leave at 10.15am, and even later if we can think of ways to keep them in Town. The Council is developing some remarkable ideas now, with a special Carnival Float based on a bicycle theme being considered. Stunt riders, old crazy bikes and more are also being discussed. Everyone is invited to join in. Have you any ideas? Tell a Council member, or contact Mayor Malcolm Jacobs at the Police House. Did you see the item on TV about Vaton in France? They are a similar-sized town to Hatherleigh and they are hosting one of the Stage starts of the Tour de France. They are literally going to town in support of their event - so let's do the same and show our French colleagues that we can match their efforts. More details of our event, including road closures and other logistical items, will be published here shortly.
