February 12, 2006: Sunday the 12th of February saw 30 plus loyal and committed residents of Hatherleigh show their steel in the grand spring clean of the town.
The local scavenger led the proceedings with the LORD OF THE MANOR in attendance, from traditions that are installed by the precepts set by centuries. The current representatives of the town, Geoffrey Cox M.P., James R McInnes (from Devon County Council) and Gary Bush (Hatherleigh Mayor) got down to what really matters the cleaning up the litter of the our town to make it into a place where all the generations can live in harmony. The local volunteer organisation from Okehampton, provided the punch to keep our spirits high. Not high enough as the troop went back to the pub for that well deserved pint. Where Mr. Cox provided lubrication for the workers a well deserved break from the rubbish.
The scavenger (Ro Skelton) braved the river to retrieve the Rotary Sign from the river and the representatives of our town pulled it free from the mire holding up the traffic, luckily the local constabulary where on a mission somewhere else as their siren showed.
Well down to everyone!
