Celtic Music at Mid-summer
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

June 9, 2008: Four accomplished and energetic musicians are due to play at the new Community Centre in Hatherleigh on Saturday 21st June. 'Ensemble na Mara' was founded in Scotland in 2003 and is currently based in London. The string trio/piano quartet performs a wide range of music. On June 21st they are coming to Devon for one night only (see EVENTS). Tickets from Salar Gallery (01837 810949) or on the night Box Office from 7pm onwards.

The ensemble features music in keeping with its Celtic links and includes Scottish traditional music. Most concerts also feature a combination of string trios and piano quartets, although the ensemble regularly explores repertoire for alternative (and exotic) instrumentations. Says Rosie Bradbury Centre Manager: "Our four classical concerts this spring each have been wonderful and really provided a unique musical experience and they appeal to all ages. Our youngest audience members have been 6 years old, our eldest 85 and all were thoroughly entranced." On Saturday the quartet will also play music from Fauré, Martinu and Beethoven.
