Hatherleigh in the Attic?
By Neil Price, Co-Editor

June 6, 2008: A month ago or so, Ken Hutchings and I (Sarah Brennan) were involved in filming for a TV Programme called “Secrets From The Attic” made by Denhams tv.. The aim of the programme is to find resources from the past that have been “put away”, that tell a story that may be of interest to the community.
As any old Hatherleigh residents would know, my Grandparents, Ralph and Emily Hurford farmed in Meeth for 42 years, and during that time my Grandmother was a very keen amateur filmmaker. She filmed in colour on a 1950's Bell and Howell Cine Camera, and her films, featuring mainly local events, farming and family life, are now on loan to the South West Film and Television Archive in Plymouth, and are thought to be of considerable significance in terms of Social History. The Producer of the show considered her films to be very beautiful, and they do give a sense of what Rural and farm life was like in the past. My Grandfather also kept a diary, every single day, we have around 50 years of his diaries, which will also feature in the TV programme.
If you're interested in catching this programme, it will be aired on Friday 20 th June, 2008, at 8pm on ITV.
The filming took 8 hours – the edited piece will end up being 5 minutes – so don't blink or you'll miss it
