Next Classical Concert
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

May 19, 2008: Hatherleigh Community Centre is pleased to host the third of its series of classical music concerts, organised in conjunction with three other counties - Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset. “'Concerts in the West' bring acclaimed UK musicians out from the London and European Circuits to rural locations and offers something rarely available outside of London and the larger cities," says Rosie Bradbury, Hatherleigh Community Centre Manager. "Our last concert brought a real energy and life to the hall, as the ensemble used our tiered seating as a stage to play their drums through the audience. The dance of the bubble bees', where the percussionists jump from one instrument to the other and swapped places, brought cheers from the audience. The two concerts we have already hosted have really set a president and I don’t want anyone to miss the performances they are all so wonderful. They will appeal to all ages."

The next classical concert - on May 23rd - features Anna Devin, Soprano and Aoife O’Sullivan on piano, who will provide a unique voice/piano duo to take an audience on a journey with music from Mozart, Shubert and Strauss to name but a few. From songs of great tension to witty folkstyle verse, about ‘men being wicked!’ Anna and Aoife will bring the hall to life again. Their recitals will also include Fauré, the greatest writer of French song and Poulenc whose song Les Chemins de L’amour (The pathways of Love) treats the subject of lost love with humour revealed in the sometimes quirky harmonies.
