NAME THE LINE UP OF THIS 1930s HATHERLEIGH SOCCER TEAM December 30, 2007: Here's a competition to end the year. A bottle of best Hatherleigh red (from the Co-op, where else?) to the most sensible entry naming as many members of this line-up as possible. Click on the pic to download a larger image. Barry Spicer wrote: "I thought you might be interested in the attached photo of one of (the HAFC) football teams - taken, I think, in the early 1930s. My father, Les Spicer, is in the front row, bottom left. The goalkeeper could well be Ivan Hatherley, who - according to the stories my father told me - was booked and the referee never did believe he was Hatherley from Hatherleigh! Also, I remember Dad told me that he and Ivan got 'well oiled' before one match and Ivan kept diving for balls that weren't there! Consequently they lost 9 nil! Good old days and happy memories ..."
