Fancy making a float for Carnival?
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

August 28, 2007: 30 or more floats feature in Hatherleigh's unique Carnival, making it one of the largest in the South West. If you've ever fancied taking part but had no idea where to start then this document, produced by the Carnival Committee specially for newbies, is exactly right for you. It gives tips and advice on all aspects of float making - from where to get a cart to the people who are willing to help behind the scenes. It also includes suggestions about the famous crepe paper designs that are one of the most popular features of Hatherleigh Carnival. Not all floats have to be big and not all have to use crepe paper. The clever design shown here used only a small amount to enhance the overall effect. The document was prepared at the time of the Festival, when Carnival-ites gave a talk about how to make crepe paper floats, but it's just as relevant today and the same people are still ready to help. All you have to do is ask! Download it here.
