Bugle Triumph for the Town's Silver Band.
By Neil Price, Co-Editor

July 2, 2007: On Sat 16th June Hatherleigh Silver Band took part in the 'West of England Bandsman Festival' at Bugle in Cornwall. Flying the flag as the only representative from Devon, the band played in 2 sections against strong Cornish opposition. In the 4th Section they played Eric Balls ' A psalm for all Nations' and gained 3rd prize in what the adjudicator said was a high standard of playing by all bands. The Band also entered the 3rd Section playing Brian Kelly's 'Divertimento' and were placed 2nd behind the highly rated Camborne 'B' Band. At the start of the day all 17 bands marched through the village to the contest field being judged on their deportment. During the results at the close of the contest a loud cheer was heard around Mollinis Park as Hatherleigh were announced as overall winners of the deportment class beating the local band 'Bugle Silver' into 2nd place. An enjoyable day was had by all and valuable experience was gained by the newer members of the band. The band can be seen with their new trophies in the Square on Sat 7th July at 3pm, playing at the Church Fete. The full results can be seen at www.hatherleighsilverband.co.uk
