A record sum ... and 'Name that Hammerer'
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

December 16, 2005: Hatherleigh Carnival achieved an impressive financial outcome, in spite of (or was because of?) all that bother beforehand. The now famous Duck Race raised enough to enable a reserve fund to be established. Nevertheless, donations were up to perhaps a record high, with over 1400 being given to organisations including Devon Air Ambulance, St Johns Ambulance, the First Hatherleigh Rangers, the Hatherleigh Silver Band, Dartmoor Rescue, the Rotary Club, Hatherleigh Co-responders, Cancer Research and last but not least, the Hatherleigh Christmas Lights. Well done to everyone who put so much time and effort into making the event succcessful, including the hard worker pictured above putting the finishing touches to one of this year's tar barrels. A bottle of wine to the first email not from the Tar Barrel Committee correctly naming the hammerer. See more Carnival pictures here.
