Carnival update - only one week to go!
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

CARNIVAL IS NOVEMBER 11TH November 3, 2006: The final committee meeting before Carnival took place last night. Everything seems to be in order ... except that unexpected last minute problem of course! Things start to happen next Friday shortly before 8pm when the Jazz Band makes its annual appearance, someone will have their leg pulled and the kids will pull both sets of Barrels up to the top of the town in readiness for the morning. The first Barrel pull is at 5am. The Hunt meets outside the George at 10.30am on Saturday morning and that's followed by the Town Criers' contest in The Square. The afternoon procession gathers at Claremont shortly after 1pm and the Crowning and Fancy Dress competition follow. And let's not forget the Decorated windows competition, which this year will include some mini-Tar Barrels! Hatherleigh.net will award a bottle of good wine for the first email received here (friends and relatives excluded!) giving the name of the person who made them.

So, there's lots happening throughout the day. The evening procession begins to assemble at about 6pm before traversing the town and the final Tar Barrel pull takes place after that - usually around 9.30pm. We'll be uploading images as fast as we can throughout the day and we hope to have a NetCam in action showing the Bridge Street/High Street junction. So there should be plenty to see on www.hatherleigh.net - visit often!
