October 24, 2006: ... and it does look impressive. I was told that it will generate 93% of its own energy requirement but as Noel Cartwright stated: "We have not been through a Winter Yet!" Both the local playgroup and Surestart, on a 25 year lease , are already in with their own kitchens set up to support the young. The obvious question was asked: "what's different?" The new Manager of Surestart , Jenny Mackenzie explained that Surestart takes on the period from anti-natal till the child reaches 5 and supports the parents during this period, while the Pre-school group, run by volunteers, is child based (2 and half till 5) and it is to prepare them for school. The facilities for them are excellent. The main hall is multi-purpose with banked seating and stage lighting, but is easily converted into a sports hall or a venue for weddings or other special occasions. Outside, a child's play area is nearly finished and there is an astro-turf playing area for 5 a side football matches, Net ball and other sports. There is also a meeting room which has computer links. For further details and booking of this wonderful facility please call Noel Cartwright on 01837 810239 email hatherleighareaproject@btconnect.com
