Hatherleigh Starlight Ball
By Neil Price, Co-Editor

October 2, 2006: Despite the appalling weather, with water pouring through the roof half an hour before the guests arrived, the Hatherleigh Starlight Ball held at West Fishleigh Farm (by kind permission of Robert and Carol Barkwell) in aid of Breast Cancer research went of with a bang. A Black Tie event with a 100% attendance the guests were greeted with a Champagne Reception and Canapés served by a charming group of helpers. Guests were then invited to take their seats at the beautifully decorated tables and treated to a delicious and plentiful cold compilation. Throughout the evening various fund raising events were organised including a “heads and tails” competition (very amusing) and a silent auction running the whole evening with fabulous items on sale. A holiday in Cyprus , bronze sculptures, guided tours, meals at various venues and many many more. All kindly donated. A huge thanks must go out to all the donors involved.
The whole event was then rounded off with dancing till the early hours to the popular sounds of The Hard Place Band. The first of its kind and hopefully to become an annual event, the guests finally left with a feeling of wellbeing a good time had by all.
A special thanks should go out to all the organisers who gave of their time to provide a very spectacular and charming event raising much needed funds for a very worthwhile cause.
A grand total of £5000 was raised for this worthwhile charity. Thank you to all who donated and attended and we hope to see you next year!
