Once-in-a-Decade Barrels
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

November 10, 2017: Carnival is here, starting tonight at 8pm when the kids of the town pull the tar barrels up to the top of Market Street. There are two sets - one normal sized, the other one comprising three huge hogsheads. The bigger set should be interesting as they are HEAVY and will take some pulling especially up the hill. All members of the TB committee are asked to come along and help the kids do their job. Here's a pic of the TB tee-shirt design for 2017. This is the 'friends' shirt; pullers will wear the inverse colours - their shirt is pink with black characters. Pink is the cancer research association colour and was selected with reference to big Brian, who left us last year. The BIG barrels stand 6 feet tall and will be pulled flaming at 5am prompt. Everyone is keen to find out how they perform. The going up High Street is expected to be tough. But it will also be spectacular, so hopefully there will be a big turn out to watch this once-in-a-decade event.
