Tar Barrel Challenge on Aug 6th - Are You Up For It?
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

June 19, 2016: Testing strength, speed, stamina and agility, the Tar Barrel Challenge will see teams of 4 people pull a barrel on a sledge from the Co-Op to The Square, complete an obstacle course and then pull the barrel back....all against the clock (and in fancy dress if you wish!)
DOWNLOAD ENTRY FORM

The Challenge is part of the fundraising necessary to keep events like this alive and well, as well as showing the Carnival and its traditions to a wider audience. The Tar Barrels have been pulled around Hatherleigh for at least 160 years - probably a lot longer - and are an important part of England's history and heritage.

Trophies will be given for the fastest children's team (under 14), fastest male/female team, fastest YFC team and best fancy dress team. There is also a CASH PRIZE!!

Teams of 4 people are invited to enter from across Devon to pit their skills against the best in Hatherleigh. Check out our brand new Facebook page "The Tar Barrel Challenge" which is being updated frequently as more news breaks.

For a guaranteed place, register by Sunday 24th July for just 2.50 per person, or pay 3.00 per person on the day - payment taken on the day. Children's run starts at 2pm, followed by the adults at 4pm. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day, including live music and a BBQ.
