A Turkish flavour
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

July 15, 2006: Not for nothing was the last album from Oojami called ‘Bellydancing Breakbeats’. A vibrant and colourful evening had been promised at the Town Hall ... and that is what we got from this hard working combo whose rhythms throbbed evening-long. It was almost impossible not to dance from the moment they started and, later, as the belly-dancing (and snake dancing and ... ) took hold, members of the audience joined the band on-stage to show that Devon may have helped originate the belly dancing style. Oojami fuses Turkish elements with a myriad of cultural traditions, and last night they held Hatherleigh in their grasp. So much is going on in Hatherleigh all day today that it's not going to be possible to keep up with the pictures of this festival but we'll try to get the best on-line asap. The Flower Displays in the Church (by chance themed on Dances) are stunning and there's plenty of live entertainment all day and night. See today's programme here.
