Helpful Fundraising for Farm Charity
By Neil Price, Co-Editor

January 20, 2016:

Helpful Holidays, the leading West Country holiday cottage experts, have raised a smashing total for the Devon-based charity, Farms for City Children.
Helpful Holidays, the award-winning self-catering cottage agency based in Chagford on Dartmoor presented a cheque for a staggering £14,237 to Farms for City Children this week.
The charity was established in 1976 by Michael Morpurgo, author of popular children’s books such as War Horse and Private Peaceful, and his wife Claire. It gives urban children the opportunity to live and work together for a week at a time on a real farm in the countryside.
Helen Hayes of Helpful Holidays said, “Farms for City Children is a wonderful charity which educates, inspires and motivates children and it’s close to our hearts. We’re grateful to our customers who donated so generously when booking cottages with Helpful Holidays in 2015, and to everyone who supported our annual charity cricket match against Gidleigh Park Hotel. We’re delighted to present this remarkable total to help Farms for City Children.”
Nethercott House near Iddesleigh in the heart of Devon was the charity’s original farm, and now three farms across the country welcome around 3,000 children every year. Tessa Stone, Chief Executive of the charity, said, ‘Not only have Helpful Holidays raised a fantastic total which will make a real difference to our work, but they’ve supported us by publicising our work. They’ve been great fun to be involved with – the fundraising cricket match was a highlight, especially when Helpful Holidays triumphed on the last ball of the match! We’d like to say a huge thank you to the whole team and their many customers for their extremely generous support’.
