Flower and Produce Show Saturday 22nd August
By Neil Price, Co-Editor

August 24, 2015: Susan Gill write "Well that's it for another year and 'well done, you'! Another very successful show with some stunning exhibits, especially the flowers which seemed to have emerged unscathed from the vagaries of the weather in the last few days. Entries were up in most classes and standards extremely high. Mrs Pat Canham won the cups for most points in vegetables and fruit and, combined with her score in the flower classes, just pipped Les Cole to win the Autumn Challenge cup. Les did have just reward, winning the new Paul Stafford memorial cup, presented by his widow, Christina, for the most outstanding dahlia exhibit; indeed, the same exhibit won 'Best in Show'. Nan Passmore won the Homecraft Challenge Cup for cookery, and the 'Best Pasty' cup, as well as the Rose Bowl for most points in the flower arranging classes. The cup for flowers went to Made-Well while Debbie Laing-Trengove won the photography cup. Mike stamp won the novelty class for longest rhubarb, measuring in at an incredible 37" and dead straight too! There were no entries for the child's birthday cake and, disappointingly, children's entries were down on previous years. However, Tammy Bakehouse won best child's exhibit and three first prizes, while her brother, Lewis won two firsts and a second. With an immaculate exhibit, Les Cole won Top Tray and the results for Top Vase were 1st, Audrey Reynolds, 2nd, Trish Wonnacott and 3rd, Jenny Pitt. Well done and thank you to all exhibitors and it was encouraging to see some new faces. And thank you too, to all those who visited in the afternoon to marvel, buy tea and support the raffle..We hope to see you all again next year!"
