It's Festival Time!
By Neil Price, Co-Editor

July 1, 2006: Hatherleigh Festival 13 th – 16 th July 2006
The eleventh Hatherleigh Arts Festival is almost here and it promises to be a unique and diverse four days of events, performances and workshops. This years line up includes vibrant Turkish dance band Oojami, who exude a feel good party mood mixed with jazzy worldwide flavours, perfect for enjoying a colourful evening of dancing and a visual treat. The comedy club features three Comedians all well known on the comedy circuit, headlining is one of the circuits biggest pulls, Ian Cognito, who has been hailed as ‘stunning' by the major press.
Street theatre, includes the slightly surreal Children's installation, ‘Slightly Bigger Little Red Riding Hood goes To the Launderette' and The Wonderful, marvellous, muscular, acrobatic, Skate Naked. There is plenty of live music with Saturday night in the marquee dancing to local favourites the Hard place Band. Our classical section features, Soprano Vicky Collier and pianist Roger Cleverdon, An organ recital, and the Anglo Sax Quartet whose music is an eclectic fusion of jazz, classical Latin and funk.
Workshops, youth and children's events, films, a nature talk with Pete Walters from Fishleigh Estate (Springwatch) and a Bat Walk are also on the menu. We have several superb art exhibitions taking place around the town, including renowned sculptor Mat Chivers in Commerce House, who will be accompanied by Andrew Gilmour Gray and Caroline Saunders, who he is mentoring through the Artsculture Project. In the Old Schools is an exciting mixed media exhibition by Mike Nuth, whose intriguing works through many years of inspirational change has also prompted a family art workshop.
We even have a Festival Fringe with the hilarious Molesworthy Farm being performed by the Hatherleigh Players on 7 th and 8 th July and The Bacchanale ensemble performing Clarinet Quintets by Mozart and Weber on Sunday 23 rd July.
There really is so much going on, so don't just think about it, put the dates in your diary, get your programme and book those tickets – with all these world class events so close to home it would be very dull of you not to!
The atmosphere is amazing and the sun will shine!
