May 15, 2006:
Exbourne village near Hatherleigh is one of only 7 places in UK to be involved with a new DEFRA 'sustainability' project. The project, called SPAN , starts on shortly and runs for .two years. The Exbounre section is being facilitated by Sally Hordern (tel 01837 851646) email email@example.com.
Seven new pilots have been chosen and the lead organisations which will be responsible for each project have been appointed. They are:
Apple Cause, Northampton Lead Organisation: Garden Organic
Exbourne Local Produce Initiative, W Devon Lead Organisation: Garden Organic
Leaf Community Allotments Project, Sheffield Lead Organisation: FCFCG
Marsh Farm Green Group, Luton Lead Organisation: Permaculture Assoc.
Tinsley Tree Project, Sheffield Lead Organisation: Permculture Assoc.
Windmill Community Allotment, Margate Lead Organisation: Women's Environmental Network
Existing pilots are the Waltham Forest partnership (London), Easton Community Garden Centre (Bristol) and the Aylesham Neighbourhood Project (N.Kent).
The SPAN lead organisations will be appointing a Lead Facilitator who will make contact with me in the next few weeks. In mid June I will be holding a meeting with all the facilitators to brief them about the project. Their role will be to work with you to define an outline plan for the element of your project that SPAN will be supporting. This will then enable you to decide how to use the time that is available to you over the next 2 years, and look at any immediate funding opportunities (using the time as match funding).
Therefore, it will not be until around the end of June/beginning of July that SPAN will be able to start working directly with you. But it is a two year project and I am sure that you will achieve a lot before the DEFRA funding runs out.
