New Year Dip
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

January 2, 2013:

That gallant and bonkers bunch calling themselves The Walruses acted out their annual dramatic interlude yesterday (Jan 1) in the usual creative manner - by jumping into the River Lew to raise money for local good causes after acting out a short play. This year's theme was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, complete with flying car and a host of suitably-attired 'actors', who delivered a performance built loosely around the eponymous vehicle prior to their baptism. Cue cards invited the audience to Boo and Cheer at appropriate moments, the biggest of the Boos being reserved for the delightfully-evil Okehampton Child Catcher, who also had the honour of entering the icy waters first. Five minutes of dancing to the theme tune and 'Yakety Sax' culminated in five seconds of total immersion as required by the rules. It was then off to warm up by the bonfire, with hot drinks, cold then hot showers following. Three cheers for The Walruses for their entertaining and admirable work.
