Hunting and Crying
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

November 10, 2012: A bright sunny morning welcomed the Hunt to The Square as they gathered for their traditional meet. There were more riders than last year and a good crowd welcomed them. Town Crier Ros fought against the babble to call a respectful one minute silence at 11am, although many in the crowd sadly were not able to hear her. The church clock failing to strike 11 also confused everyone. The Town Criers contest got going once the hunt had left (perfectly legal their master assured us, "we already laid a trail".). Elsewhere the sound of hammering and the smell of paint filled the air as last-minute float preparations happened in garages and workshops around the town. A few people looked very tired, including this writer ... but hey!, that's Carnival! Now we're off to make sure the torch frame gets finished properly. See you after the Childrens' procession at 1.30pm, assuming we can find time to reach the PC before the evening procession assembly at 5.30pm.
