Chris & Co Kayak the Coast
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

August 4, 2012: As Olympians strive to win gold in venues around the UK, a bunch of Devonians are planning their own Herculean effort for 2013. Hatherleigh's Chris Brown-Martin and Matt Retter - supported by Chris Lake - want to Kayak the 300 miles or so of coast from Bude on the North Devon Coast to Devon Capital Exeter in the south. Called the South West Kayak Charity Challenge, the event will take place in August 2013 finishing, it is hoped, on Bank Holiday Sunday August 25th with a cycling event (tbc) from either Dawlish or Starcross to the finish line at Exeter Quay. There is also a real possibility that other paddlers will join in with the final stage from Starcross to the finish line. The primary aim is to raise money for four charities - Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT), Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust (CAAT), Surf Life Saving GB and Alpha 1 Awareness UK, but there are personal reasons why these people want to do this particular thing too. Read all about those here. Hatherleigh.net will support this project as much as possible with stories, photos, etc., so keep visiting the SWKCC web site (it has a blog too, run by supporter Lyn) to follow progress, or stop by here every so often. Sponsors are listed here.
