ANNOUNCING ‘MEDIA RICH' – A MINI FILM FESTIVAL FOR HATHERLEIGH

Hatherleigh is on the lookout for film-making talent with the news that a mini-film festival called ‘Media-Rich' is to be held alongside the annual Hatherleigh Festival this year.

Organisers Alan Beaman and Geoff Hodgkinson want to encourage anyone with ideas and talent to make a film for the event, to be held on Saturday May 23 rd in the new Hatherleigh Community Centre. All entries will be shown and winners will be chosen from several categories to be announced shortly. Awards and cash prizes are also being set up.

“Video editing and production is so easy these days,“ said Alan, “and the software is readily available, often free of charge. So we wondered why more people don't create movies from all that film they take with their camcorders. Think of the possibilities. We want to help people with ideas show their talents. Maybe we'll find the next Speilberg!”

Entries for ‘Media-Rich' can be from any location and experienced movie makers are welcome to submit entries too. The aim is to seek out good ‘story' based movies but any kind of presentation will be accepted. Entries can be up to 10 minutes long.

Experience is not essential as workshops are planned. Alan and Geoff will provide help and guidance if needed. There's no age limit either, and any kind of film on any topic in any style can be entered – History, Comedy, Drama, Art or Craft, Time Lapse, Animation, Mash-up or Re-mix.

“If you think you'd like to try there's really no excuse.” said Geoff. “We think Hatherleigh is Media-Rich, don't you? Contact us and we'll tell you how to take things forward. We expect the first year to be modest but who knows, we might be starting off a brand new feature for future Hatherleigh Festivals.”

A flyer with tips is available from the Paper Shop in Hatherleigh. More information on this can also be found at www.hatherleigh.net.
