Dartmoor Decorative and Fine Arts Society
Announce the inaugural lecture of the Society which will be given in the Charter Hall Okehampton on Wednesday February 8th. Doors open for tea and coffee at 10.00 am. The Lecture starts at 10.30 prompt.
The talk will be given by the distinguished Historian, and Broadcaster, Rupert Willoughby. It is entitled Threads of History: The world of the Bayeux Tapestry. It offers a lively introduction to the Tapestry - so much more than the story of Hastings.
Everyone is welcome. Tickets are £6, payable at the door.
FUN QUIZ NIGHT -

Totally Vinyl Disco -

The event this month is a Totally Vinyl Disco, 50s, 60s, 70s, maybe 80s Discs, at the Village Hall on Saturday 11th February, 7.30p.m. , . Tickets are only £6, in advance to include a Sausage or Burger, please bring your own Tipple. They can be obtained from the Shop, Lorraine or Sally. Requests for Music please to Lorraine as soon as possible, this is a time to reminisce and dance/listen to the oldies, so your choice is needed so we can all have a laugh and have some fun.
History Society -

On Monday February 13th at 7:30pm in Old Schools Rev John Leach will be talking about Hatherleigh’s development over the last thousand years highlighting the key happenings during that time. As usual all are welcome (Visitors £2)
Our annual Dinner will be on March 7th and members will be asked to indicate at the February meeting if they are planning to attend. Please note this date in your diary now!
Bible Society -

Hatherleigh Bible Society
The Bible Society was founded in 1804 to provide bibles in many languages to people throughout the world, and to raise awareness of its message of good news to people here in Britain. The Hatherleigh branch was formed in 1824 and is now the oldest surviving one.
Over the past year the generous people of Hatherleigh have raised a total of £1,571.74p for the work of the Bible Society - thank-you all very much.
The next coffee morning for the work of the Bible Society will be held in ‘Old Schools’ on Tuesday 14th February.

Exbourne Jubilee Organising Meeting -
February 15
The next organising meeting for Exbourne's Jubilee planning is on 15th February at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. Every villager is welcome to come along and contribute ideas, thoughts and perhaps offer help. There is NO COMMITTEE, save for a Chairman to keep us focused, a Secretary to keep us informed and a Treasurer to keep us in funds! Do come and join in. There will be further meetings on 13th March and 10th April, both in the Village Hall at 7.30pm.

After the festive lull in proceedings, during which time we enjoyed our Christmas meal at the New Inn, Sampford Courtenay, we start the year afresh with the AGM which will be held on Thursday 16th February at 7.30pm in the Old Schools. We welcome members old and new to the meeting where we will discuss the programme for the coming year. It also offers the opportunity to swap plants or seeds; so if you have any surplass to requirememnts do bring them along.

Exbourne Jubilee Jumble Sale -

On the 18th February there is a Jubilee Jumble Sale in the Hall at 2.15 p.m., so have a good clear out, and then come along and pick up some bargains, have a cup of tea and a chat and collect a Draw Prize! It's in aid of the Jubilee celebrations.

The next Hatherleigh Cinema will be on 22 February, as always at 730pm.
Please note that this is not our usual third Wednesday in the month. This is because the Hatherleigh Players will be using the Community Centre for a performance of "Puss in Boots" pantomime on our regular day. Under the terms of our licence we cannot publicise openly the titles of the next two films but they will be posted on the Community Centre internal notice board from 15 February. Become a member and choose the films to be shown. Please check the Community Centre or Post Office notice boards for the entitlement of club membership.

If you are interested in the future of our town, drop in at any time between 10am and 3pm on the 25th February to find out more about how you can influence what happens in Hatherleigh, and to see the results of the Plan It survey.
There will also be two detailed discussions and you are welcome to join either of these sessions to share your concerns and ideas for the town.
The first is from 10.30am – 12 noon.
The second is from 12.30pm to 2pm.
Please come and share your views.

Jubilee Bangers and Mash Night -

This Bangers and Mash Night is part of the fund raising activities for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in June. There's a Royal-themed quiz too! A weekend-long celebration is being planned, so come along, have some tasty fare and help Exbourne raise money to celebrate things in style. Our Queen deserves it!

Hatherleigh Open Gardens 2012
We are planning to have this event on June 9th and 10th alongside the Church Flower Festival. In July 2010 there were a dozen gardens opened and we raised many hundreds of pounds for the HCBRF.
Some of you said that your gardens looked at their best a month earlier, so this year maybe there are some new gardens that could open too? Would anyone who is interested in opening their garden this year (whether or not they have opened it before) please let Sally know a.s.a.p. (Tel: 810377 or 810940).
