Our aim is to cover - in pictures and words - as much about the town as possible, building up an archive and showing what a great place this is to visit. If you have a digital camera and would like to contribute just let us know. We will upload your shots to the web site: all you have to do is let us have the originals on a CD or memory stick. Tour of Britain 2009 Stage 7 of the prestigious Tour of Britain cycle race started in Hatherleigh on September 18th. Here's the promotional stuff.
Ruby Run 2009 Annual half marathon between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy. This year it started in Hatherleigh.
Chess Challenge 2009 A nailbiting afternoon in the Square
'Allo 'Allo Hatherleigh Players presented the popular TV sitcom 'Allo 'Allo for the 2009 contribution to the Festival (below)
Festival 09 A Modest affair compared with previous years, but some fun was had. A Mini Film Festival kept film buffs occupied.
Walruses 2009 Annual Dip on January 1st in the River Lew for that bonkers crew calling themselves The Walruses. Money raised goes to good causes locally.

RIP

A fire that started in one corner of this historic coaching inn eventually raged unchecked throughout the building on December 23rd 2008 while stunned locals watched in disbelief. Although the fire died down in the early hours leaving ancient walls and stone chimney stacks standing, the building was razed to the ground within hours by demolition crews. Rotary Christmas Auction Annual auction where anything and everything goes. Held this year in The Bridge.
Carnival 2008 Devon's brightest and best Carnival got rained on this year but continued nevertheless. The rest of the day was fine and things took place more or less according to plan..
Halloween Party at Bridge Inn The new owners of the Bridge chose October 31st 2008 for a Children's Halloween Party. There was a competition to find the best little horror!
Tar Barrels Half Marathon August 2008 The Tar Barrel Boys attempt to pull a set of Barrels to Winkleigh, and back!. That's 13 1/2 miles, or a half marathon distance. Find out if they managed to complete the pull.
Island Party 2008 The Hawaian theme was dampened by wet and windy weather, but t'was an excellent event nevertheless.
Festival 2008 A nice record of the day, including TyburnRig, BabelFish, general atmosphere shots, a sample of the Church flower displays, Revolvin Door and the great Bruce Airhead. A video still from the ABBA trubute concert too.
2008 Country Fair and Clay Pigeon Shoot Steam Engines, Tractors and loads of fun at the Old Station House. To come.
The 'HATHERLEIGH' ship We visit Captain Terry Bunker of the MV 'Hatherleigh' at its moorings under the Spinnaker Tower at Gunwharf Quay in Portsmouth.
The Ruby Run 2008 Annual half marathon between Holsworthy and Hatherleigh. This year it was Hatherleigh's turn to host the finish.
Deanery Bell Ringing Competition 2008 St Johns Church in Hatherleigh hosted the annual bell ringing contest organised by Okehampton Deanery, winning two out of the three classes.

Tar Barrels First World Tour A sponsored pull to Iddesleigh and back in September saw the Tar Barrel committee raise funds to ensure the future of their important Carnival tradition.
Island Party This annual fund raiser for Carnival featured the Wild West
Flower Show 2007 Not just flowers, but food, children's crafts and photography too.
Festival 2007 Four days of fun, entertainment and learning in the streets and venues of Hatherleigh (July 12th - July 15 2007)
Alternative International Chess Congress 2007 An afternoon of unending thrills in The Square
Beating the Bounds 2007 A 10 mile walk to mark the old borough boundary. It's been taking place since medieval times, but only every 7 years so this was an unusual opportunity to record another Hatherleigh tradition! (Now includes even more pix - see links on page).
Mouse Racing in The George 7 races sponsored locally and all in aid of Carnival Funds
