Silk Workshop - April 24

Music Night - April 25

Coffee Morning - April 26 
Coffee Morning Okehampton Hospital Friends welcome new members from Hatherleigh The Friends of Okehampton Community Hospital will be holding a Coffee Morning in the Old Schools, Hatherleigh on Saturday, 26th April from 9.30 a.m. – 12 noon when they will be welcoming members and supporters who wish to attend and support the valuable work done by the Friends in providing equipment and comforts to patients. The Chairman, Martin Perry, said, “We hope for a good turn out from Hatherleigh who have always been very supportive of our fund raising activities that make such a difference to the services that can be offered by our wonderful hospital in Okehampton that serves the wider community. We will be selling cakes, books, and all the usual stalls as well as a special display of greeting cards especially produced for the Friends with photographs of local scenes that are always very popular. Recent purchases by the Friends have included equipment to aid leg ulcer treatment, physiotherapy and speech therapy equipment, an electric chair and various aids for the dementia patients. Supporters who wish to become members of the Friends should contact the Treasurer, Mrs Ann Lane on 01837 659671 – the annual subscription is £10 or a mere 20 pence a week. Spring Fair - April 26 
Spring Fair On Saturday 26th April the Annual Spring Fair is being held in the Village Hall at 2.15 p.m., there will be Plants, Cakes, Bric a Brac/Books and a Fantastic Draw and Cream Teas.. Our fundraising events are very important to the Church as these are the main way of keeping the Church alive and paying for all the running costs, and we do appreciate all the support we can get, and look forward to seeing you. Any donations of goods will be gratefully accepted by Lorraine - 851246, collection available.

Big Band Okehampton College Big Band is Coming to Town! 7.30pm, Friday 2nd May, Hatherleigh Parish Church Everyone is invited to a concert by the talented young people in the Okehampton College Big Band. It’s not to be missed! Tickets on the door: £6.00 Adults; £4.00 Children Half the ticket price will go to the Band and half to the Parish Church. Light refreshments in the interval. Jumble Sale - May 3

Plant Sale Hatherleigh - May 3 
Just to give you prior notice of our annual PLANT SALE which will be on Saturday, May, 3rd. All sorts of plants from veg. to shrubs, some unusual, will be there to tempt you and set you up for what is one of the 'big' gardening weekends of the year! And to help in this venture, if anyone out there has a surfeit of pots: 1 and 1.5 litre ( not too big thank you ), deep 'rose' pots, or seed trays do let us know and we will collect.

Car Treasure Hunt - May 4 
Car Treasure Hunt On Sunday 4th May In aid of Hatherleigh School Association Bev and Dan have set a really fun car treasure hunt which will take you around nearby villages, stopping for afternoon tea (which will hopefully diffuse any competition tensions in the car!!!) then finishing at The Tally Ho! for a barbecue. There will be questions that can be answered from the comfort of your car, others you will need to park safely and go for a wonder round, children will have some of their own questions and things to do, plus there will be items to collect in the case of a tie breaker so we hope there will be something for everyone. We will be setting cars off from Hatherleigh Town car park between 1.30 and 3.30pm, please phone either Bev on 811219 or Louise on 811255 to pre book your car (and departure time) at a reduced price of £5 or come along on the day for £7 per car. We would like to thank all the local pubs and shops who have kindly donated some fantastic prizes for our prize draw, they have been very generous. The barbecue will start from 5pm and we will give the results of the car treasure hunt and the fab prize draw at approximately 6pm. So if on May 4th you are aware of lots of slow moving traffic, or people staring at your house please don’t be alarmed, they are not “casing the joint” it’s just a treasure hunt! The Alien Balladeer - May 9 
Beaford Arts – The Alien Balladeer In conjunction with Beaford Arts the Community Centre are putting on a show called ‘The Alien Balladeer’. Murray Lachlan Young will perform a selection of poems and songs from his BBC Radio 4 series of the same name. Murray is a poet, broadcaster and playwright who is on tour in the Spring and we are lucky enough to have secured a performance by him. Brownies Coffee Morning - May 10 
Hatherleigh Brownies Coffee Morning On Saturday 10th May from 9:30 – 12 Noon, We will be holding our annual coffee morning in the Church Rooms. The Brownies will be doing a raffle and running stalls for cakes, books, toys, plants and crafts. We look forward to seeing you all and appreciate your support in raising funds for the Brownies activities and crafts. Ploughman's Lunch - May 10 
There will be a Ploughman's lunch in the Churchroom on Saturday May 10th, from 12-2p.m. Ham, cheese, salads, lovely puds - all good stuff! Tickets (£5.00) from P.C.C. members or from the Churchroom on Post Office mornings. Come and enjoy a healthy lunch and a chat with us.

Shebbear Antiques and Collectors Fair - May 11

History Society - May 12 
History Society Our next meeting will be on Monday May 12th at 7:30pm in Old Schools when Alan Parkinson will be giving an illustrated talk about the history of North Tawton School. As usual all are welcome! Brian Abell

Coffee Morning - May 13 
Tuesday, May 13th, is our, now annual, coffee morning in aid of Devon Air Ambulance. As well as the usual fare of coffee & cake, raffle and cake stall, you can expect to see more plants - we are gardeners after all!! We look forward to seeing you there, supporting us, as you always do so brilliantly, in raising money for this very good cause.

Exbourne Gardening Club Trip - May 13 
On 13th May we will be visiting the garden at Andrews Corner in Belstone, this will be an evening visit and is timed to make the most of mature spring flowering shrubs and trees with a wonderful Dartmoor backdrop. The Village Hall AGM is on Wednesday 14th May at 7.30 p.m. in the hall – this meeting is open to everyone so please come along and hear about what is happening in your Village Hall. There will be an opportunity to try out the new table tennis table and look at the mirco library too.

Under the terms of our licence we cannot publicise openly the titles of the next two films but members will be informed by email about 14 May. Also the programme will be posted on the Community Centre internal notice board from the same date. Become a member and choose the films to be shown. Please check the Community Centre or Post Office notice boards for the entitlement of club membership.

Gardening Club - May 15 
Thursday, May 15th, we relax a little as we return to Old Schools to enjoy an evening with Mimi Wells who will give a talk entitled 'Gardening in Challenging Situations'. This will start at 7.30pm and, as always, non-members are also welcome. Susan Gill 01837 810893

Plant Sale - May 17 
Flower Club The next meeting of the Sampford Courtenay Flower Club will be held on Monday 12 May at 7.30pm in the Church Rooms. Sue Neale and Stuart will give a demonstration on 'Romantic Melodies'. All welcome. The club are also holding a Plant Sale and Coffee Morning on Saturday 17 May in the Church Rooms from 10am to 12 noon.

Two Village Walk - May 17 
Two Village Walk from Exbourne to Broadwoodkelly and back is on Saturday 17th May starting from Exbourne Village Hall at 11.30 a.m. with lunch at Broadwoodkelly and back to Exbourne for tea.

All that glisters! - May 21 
Dartmoor DFAS has enjoyed interesting and diverse lectures this year and these continue with Mary La Trobe Bateman giving an overview of contemporary British Jewellery under the heading 'ALL THAT GLISTERS?' On Wednesday May 21st. All lectures are given in the Charter Hall Okehampton and non members are very welcome. Tickets are £10, payable at the door and refunded if you become a member of the society. Excellent coffee and delicious brownies are served from 10.00 am. with the lecture starting promptly at 10.30. For more information contact Sara-Jane Cumming on 01822 860281

Playing Fields AGM - May 21 
Playing Field AGM The Playing Field Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 21st May at 7 p.m in the Burrow, it is important to keep our Playing Field for the Village and School, and there are several people on the existing Committee who feel it is time to relinquish their role and let younger and more active members of the Community take the lead, so your presence, ideas and enthusiasm would be appreciated. There are outline plans already in place for extra parking and improved facilities, but these need to be pursued, so all are very welcome to attend and help form a Vibrant new Committee to ensure the life of the Playing Field for future generations.

Comedy Evening - May 29 
Johnny Cowling who is fast becoming Cornwall's Première Entertainer will be be making us laugh in the Community Centre at 7:30pm. Doors and bar open at 6:45pm. Tickets £10 from Tidball Insurance Services.
This is a Hatherleigh Rotary Club Event to raise money for the Jenson Appeal. The aim is to send Jenson who has spastic diplegia and cerebral palsy to America for a life saving operation. Further details about his condition can be found on his website at www.justgiving.com/jensonspage

Exbourne Open Gardens - June 14 
Our June event will be the Exbourne Open Gardens on 14th June which is for Village Hall funds and there will also be a plant sale for Garden Club funds.

The Bumper Festive Ruby Country Market in Hatherleigh in December drew record crowds to the Market and the Town where some businesses reported 3 weeks business being done on a single day. The market dates for 2014 are :- Easter Saturday April 19th Saturday July 19th and Saturday December 6th. Rotary Beer Festival - August 23 
23rd August 2014 This year the Rotary Beer Festival will be held on Saturday 23rd August at the Cricket Club. There will be at least 8 different beers and ciders to sample. Live music will be provided by two bands but look out for the details nearer the time. This fund raising event is on behalf of the North Devon Hospice local Outreach Centre, to support at-home care.

Rotary Fun Day - August 24 
Sunday 24th August 2014 The event starts at 1.00pm. We hope to include even more local groups this year making it a real community event. There will be plenty of refreshments. As usual there will be our top quality BBQ, also cream teas, ice cream, popcorn and a bar. We hope there will plenty of local dog owners entering their pooches in the Dog Show. Although the final programme has not yet been fixed we hope to have several new attractions, as well as our traditional entertainments such as children's races, skittles, archery, ferret racing, bouncy castle etc. There will be a demonstration provided by the local Fire and Rescue Service. The Hatherleigh Ukulele Bashers will be playing along with a steel band but look out for further details when the programme is finalised nearer the time. The aims of the Rotary Club of Hatherleigh are to raise funds in order to support good causes both locally, nationally and internationally. This year the main beneficiaries of Fun Day will be Devon Air Ambulance and the Alzheimer Research UK.
