April
12th 2006: The immensely popular BBC TV wild life programme Springwatch
returns to Hatherleigh shortly for the 2006 series of live broadcasts
from a farm in 'deepest Devon'. Starting May 29th, the programme features
Bill Oddie and Kate Humble as presenters, upstaged not a little by the
wild creatures who inhabit these parts alngside we humans. Producer Tim
Scoones and colleagues, among them Kate Humble, came to town last night
to explain what was going to happen this year and answer questions. Wine
and nibbles were on hand in the Town Hall to entertain about 90 people
who wanted to listen and talk. Cameras were there for folk to try out
and this was a big hit with the younger set. Tim told us that the team
are extremely happy being back in Hatherleigh, where the George Hotel
becomes social headquarters for the duration. Over 80 people have to be
boarded locally, (the important ones - those are the people who must be
on hand to film early - get the nearest rooms (in the George etc.) while
the less important folk, including Tim!, have to sleep as far away as
Chagford.) We'll be following this story over the coming weeks.
