Feniton v Hatherleigh Town
The New Year got off to a good start, with Town back to strength and a goal-laden game resulting. Our match reporter filed this report, with a bite at the end that sounds like Town now mean real business!
Feniton (0)3 vs Hatherleigh Town (1)2
The supporters wanted goals and we got them. Manager John Hayman told the travelling fans: "you will see goals" and we definitly did, on a sloping pitch reminiscence of Yeovil's old ground.
Hatherleigh had Gary Toop back in goal with Graham Bryant reverting to a left midfielder role. Hatherleigh soaked up Feniton's early pressure and the defence worked well as a unit. On 11 minutes Hatherleigh's first real shot on goal saw Dymond beat two defenders, only for his shot to be kicked off the line. Rice's resulting corner went into the far post to give Town a 0-1 lead.
Another good effort from Dymond hit the crossbar. Bedford was injured after a bad tackle in the 43rd minute and had to be replaced by Millington. Half time Feniton 0-1 Hatherleigh Town
Kicking down the slope, Feniton looked a different team in the second half. Their manager pushed four upfront, putting pressure on Town's back four. On 55 minutes James went off to be replaced by Cooper.
Feniton's first came after 63 minutes. A great save on 75 minutes by Toop kept Town in the game. Feniton's 2nd was a real injustice to the away team as the home forward kicked the ball out, but the referee signalled a corner which resulted in a good headed goal to make it 2-1
Hatherleigh kept up the pressure but to no avail, with Feniton going 3-1 up against the run of play. Some questionable ref's decision did not help Town but the goal of the game was a 20 yard strike from Dymond two minutes from time.
The referee, after allowing seven minutes extra in the first half, gave no extra in the second half with Town looking for the draw. Full Time Feniton 3-2 Hatherleigh
Hatherleigh's line up: Toop, Moore, Wonnacott, Reynolds, Bruce, Bryant, Endacott, Bedford, Dymond, Rice James. Subs: Millington, Cooper
A good overall performance by Town who really deserved a draw. Feniton produced the second away match programme which we've seen. However, we were pleased with Feniton's comments about the excellent Hatherleigh website!
Home to Axminster next Saturday. Be there!
Sorry, no pix; apologies to Feniton. If anyone does have any pics, please send them and they can appear here.
