Axminster v Witheridge

Hatherleigh (1)2 Vs Witheridge (1)1
Those supporters who turned up in numbers were rewarded with Hatherleigh's first win this side of Christmas.
On a bitterly cold day Town played host to Mid Devon side Witheridge, who many predict will be up there at the end of the season.
A youthful Witheridge were the first to shoot on target on 5 minutes. The first goal went to the home team after a through ball from Bryant found James, who slotted home. Hatherleigh 1 v Witheridge 0
Witheridge pushed forward and was soon on terms, this time with a penalty via a push from a Town defender and the referee pointing to the spot.
On 36 minutes Bryant who was injured was replaced by Cooper with the opposition continuing to push forward, but the teams went in 1 -1 at half time.
Witheridge tried hard in the first 10 minutes, kicking down the hill to break the Hatherleigh defence who were resolute, with Reynolds marshalling his troops well. Witheridge hit the cross bar but Town hit back after 61 minutes with a long ball out of defence which found Dymond who coolly lobbed the keeper to make it 2-1.
Davies came on for James with 10 minutes to go and a defence-minded Town held firm to win 2-1.
Manager John Hayman stated before the game "It's 3 points today" - how right he was!
Team: Toop, Moore, Wonnacott, Reynolds, Bruce, Bryant, Bedford, Dymond, James, Endacott, Rice. Subs Cooper and Davies.
Next week it's home to St Martins in the East Devon Cup.We shall not be there as we are watching our beloved Doncaster Rovers at Swindon, But we will be looking for the result with interest.
(No pictures - sorry - due to the day job keeping us in Germany and London all week. Believe us, Air Berlin and The Ivy are no substitute!)
